As part of the Oregon University System, Portland State University's vision is to enhance recognition of the value of higher education by continually strengthening the metropolitan environment and utilizing that strength for its own growth toward standards of excellence in accessible high quality research, teaching and outreach programs.
Opportunity
Portland State was using a non-maintained, custom Content Management Solution that needed to be updated. The system was using an old Oracle Database and no longer met the goals of the institution.
Solution
PSU adopted the open source content management system known as Drupal for its affordability, flexibility, scalability, and substantial community of users and experts. Swipht is currently engaged in developing the next generation of the PSU websites using Drupal as the main Content Management system for over 50 current sites, the biggest Drupal multi-site install to date. Drupal will also be used to manage syndicated content through a centralized repository of all shared content. The syndication server will allow the management of user account access and customize the security categories and content types while providing tools for department site administrators to select syndication feeds for each department website.
Results
The site is currently in development and is scheduled to be launched winter 2008.
